Abe is on a two-day official visit to China. Final figures are expected later on Sunday.

Social Democrat lawmaker Algirdas Butkevicius, abercrombie, Ms Grybauskaite's nearest challenger, was running a distant second with 12% of the vote.

The second round - if required - would be held on 7 June.

"In the difficult times I can give my experience, my knowledge to my country, franklin marshall," Ms Grybauskaite added.

After enjoying years of impressive growth since it joined the European Union in 2004,abercrombie and fitch paris, Lithuania is experiencing double digit economic contraction and rising unemployment.

She is widely seen as being a level-headed caretaker and has also avoided being tainted(感染的,污染的) by domestic scandals, our correspondent says.

If confirmed, abercrombie and fitch, Ms Grybauskaite, moncler, aged 53, would become Lithuania's first ever female president.

欧盟财政预算委员Dalia Grybauskait宣布获得立陶宛总统选举的胜利,abercrombie france

To avoid a run-off a candidate needs 50% of the vote with at least 50% of the eligible voters(合格选民) taking part.

Ms Grybauskaite has been critical of the way the economy has been handled by governments in the past.

Lithuania's crashing economy has dominated what little policy debate this presidential election has generated, the BBC's Adam Easton says.

With some 36% of the vote counted, she had 68% backing, according to preliminary results. Turnout was just more than 50%.

Frustration turned into violence in January when demonstrators smashed windows in the parliament building in Vilnius.

If turnout is below 50%,louboutin, a candidate needs backing from a third of all eligible voters.

'Level-headed'

Seven candidates contested the elections.

The first round of the polls was held amid widespread concern about the economic downturn in the Baltic state.

"Our local political establishment is so boring for people, and they want to see some new faces, abercrombie paris," she told reporters after voting in the capital Vilnius.

European Union budget commissioner Dalia Grybauskaite has claimed victory in Lithuania's presidential election.

"I am grateful for the responsibility invested in me,abercrombie," she said, abercrombie and fitch, after Sunday's first round of the vote.

Grybauskaite has been at the European Commission for five years

Ms Grybauskaite, the EU's tough-talking budget commissioner who has a black belt in karate(空手道), was running as an independent.

And I'm Faith Lapidus. Join us again next week for PEOPLE IN AMERICA in VOA Special English.

A few years later, she married the trumpet player of her band, Pedro Knight. Soon Cruz and her husband separated from La Sonora Matancera. They had played together for fifteen years. But it was time to explore new musical choices.

Celia Cruz lived in New York City where Latin music could be heard in many forms. Many musicians were experimenting with mixing different traditions, abercrombie and fitch, rhythms, and styles. The music known as salsa was a combination of Cuban "son" with other Latin sounds. This music expressed the happiness and the pain of life in Latin American communities.

In two thousand three, Celia Cruz died as a result of brain cancer. Her life was celebrated at two funerals. Hundreds of thousands of people attended the funerals. Actors, politicians, musicians as well as thousands of fans attended to say goodbye to the Queen of Salsa.

VOICE TWO:

VOICE ONE:

Her father wanted her to be a teacher. But Celia wanted a career in music. She later said that she was both a singer and a teacher. She said that her music taught the world about Cuban culture and the happiness of living life to the fullest.

Celia Cruz enjoyed a full and successful life. She won many Grammy Awards. With her seventy albums, she became the most famous voice of salsa music. She was a strong and powerful woman in a music industry made up mostly of men.

During the nineteen seventies Celia Cruz became famous for calling out "Azúcar, moncler!" while singing. This word means "sugar" in Spanish. Cruz would shout out this word to energize her band and her audience. You can hear her saying this word in many recordings.

Celia Cruz also used her fame to help other people. In two thousand two, her husband started the Celia Cruz Foundation. This organization gives money to poor students who want to study music. It also helps cancer patients.

In nineteen forty-seven Celia started studying at the Cuban Conservatory of Music. She was discovered a few years later by the music group La Sonora Matancera. This group of was one of Cuba's most famous orchestras. Their lead singer had just left the band, so they needed a new performer. When the group heard Celia's voice, christian louboutin, they hired her immediately.

In the early nineteen sixties, great political changes took place in Cuba. After a revolution, the communist leader Fidel Castro took power in the country. Like many other Cubans, Celia Cruz decided to move to the United States. She later became an American citizen and never again returned to her country.

Music is an important part of the cultural life of Cubans. During the nineteen thirties and forties in Havana, abercrombie, Celia heard many kinds of music. Famous music groups and singers would perform live on the radio. She could listen to dance music like the rumba, abercrombie paris, mambo and guaracha. These kinds of songs were influenced by the music of Africa and Spain. This Cuban music or "son" is defined by the beat of the drum and the call of the singer. It is music made for dancing.

At first, listeners missed the band's former singer. But soon, they fell in love with the powerful voice of Celia Cruz. Here is another of her songs recorded with La Sonora Matancera. It is called "Caramelos". Cruz tells about a candy seller singing in the streets about his delicious goods.

Celia Cruz soon became the voice of salsa. She performed and made records with many musicians. She would wear wildly colorful clothing with tall shiny shoes. Her face was often painted with bright makeup. And her dancing was as energetic as her voice. Here is a recording of Cruz singing "Isadora" with Johnny Pacheco and the Fania AllStars.

And I'm Faith Lapidus with People in America in VOA Special English. Today, we tell about Celia Cruz. She was one of the most influential and energetic female singers in the history of Afro-Cuban Music. More than seventy of her albums help document the history of the music known as salsa.

This program was written and produced by Dana Demange. I'm Steve Ember.

VOICE ONE:

Celia Cruz was born in nineteen twenty-five in Havana, abercrombie, Cuba. Her parents were not musicians. But music played an important role in her childhood. Her grandmother once said that Celia could sing before she could talk. Celia would often sing at school and community gatherings. Later, louboutin, as a teenager Celia started competing in singing contests. She won many competitions.

VOICE TWO:

VOICE TWO:

VOICE TWO:

We leave you with the song "Rie y Llora" from Celia Cruz's last album. It is a song about laughing and crying. Cruz reminds her listeners to live their lives fully and enjoy every moment.

That song was "Tu Voz", which means "Your Voice" in Spanish. It was a hit song performed by Celia Cruz and her band, abercrombie france, La Sonora Matancera, in nineteen fifty-two. They performed many hit songs. They toured all over the world together spreading the sounds of Cuba. "Tu Voz" is about love and desire. The music helps to transport you to the sunny streets of Havana, abercrombie and fitch, Cuba. Like most of the songs of Celia Cruz, this music makes you want to start dancing.

Celia Cruz always enjoyed taking on new projects. She sang many songs with musicians that were not salsa performers. For example, abercrombie and fitch paris, she sang with the hip-hop singer Wyclef Jean on one of his albums. She also sang with musicians such as David Byrne and Patti Labelle. Cruz also appeared in several movies. One of her most well known roles was in the film "The Mambo Kings" in nineteen ninety-two. Not surprisingly, Cruz plays the part of a salsa singer. Here is Cruz performing the song "Guantanamera" from the sound track of this movie.

It is widely written that you need 75% of your presentincome to maintain your present life-style in retirement. Ifyou make 100 thousand now, abercrombie, figure 75 thousand inretirement.

Fifty thousand now, figure 37.5 thousand in retirement. Theaverage retirement income in the US is 27 thousand. See whatyou think after reading these ideas.

Some really significant expenses you won't have inretirement:

1.Life insurance. Usually paid up by now or it has run itscourse. Also there is little need for it. No premiums topay.

2.Mortgage payments. Houses are usually paid off by now.

3.Child-rearing expenses. A big one. Unless you got areally late start.

4.College costs. You saved for it and then paid for itover many years. See #3.

5.Work expenses. Transportation, abercrombie and fitch, clothing, lunches, abercrombie, etc.

6.Large house. Selling and moving into smaller digs canadd significantly to your nest-egg and reduce expenses fortaxes, maintenance, insurance and utilities. A reversedouble whammy for this one.

7.Automobile expense. It/they should be paid off and mightbe used less.

8.Credit card payments. Most everybody has learned by thistime not to have this debt.

9.Some people move to an area where the cost of living isvery significantly lower.

10.Last and this is my favorite. You don't have to savefor retirement anymore, louboutin!

Jot down a figure for each one and see what you get.

These are some further considerations that might reduce yourexpenses. Where is it written that you won't want to changeyour life-style at all? After all as we get older ourtastes change, coach outlet, often towards those activities that cost lessand we appreciate simpler things.

A walk on the beach or in the quiet woods, moncler, in the morningsun or even in a light rain can be as enjoyable as anything. Some of the best things in life really are free. A coldwinter evening by a warm fire with a great book (free fromthe library),abercrombie paris, a visit with the grandchildren and pullingvine-ripened tomatoes from your own plants are more examplesof inexpensive activities. Who needs a riotous evening in anightclub or an expensive day at a casino?

Linger over coffee and the newspaper in the morning, havebreakfast with friends, franklin marshall, take a little nap in the afternoonor day trips to attractions like museums, planetariums andnature exhibits. Aren't there things you always thought youmight like to do and explore like writing, playing music, dancing, sports (non-contact) and crafts and hobbies? Theseneed not cost a lot.

Also remember you are free to take advantage of early-birdspecials, two-for-one nights and eating out at lunchtimeinstead of dinner. These can save as much as half onrestaurant bills. Don't forget senior citizen discounts, either.

What might cost more now that you are older? Health care, ofcourse. Putting these in table form:

1.Health insurance premiums. Mainly Medicare supplementalinsurance. Figure 2000 dollars and up.

2.Prescription drug costs, doudoune moncler, both premiums for insurance andout of pocket expense. Most medications not yet off patent(have no generic) are 800 to 1200 dollars a year each. Thearithmetic here is easy.

         3.General out-of-pocket expense.

4.Long term care or nursing home care. Premiums forinsurance if you elect to buy it, although the jury is stillout on whether or not you should according to a leadingconsumer's magazine. The biggest expense of all is nursinghome care if you have no insurance. People who have goodsupport can often remain at home for a long time utilizinghome care facilities, abercrombie and fitch paris, which costs a lot less.

Naturally every situation is different. Hopefully thesethoughts will help you in your calculations. If you add upall that you don't have to pay and what you can reasonablyexpect to pay and can avoid a long nursing home stay you mayneed less than you thought.

A recent article in Money magazine had a good idea. Duringthe last year before retirement, try to live on what youexpect to have, pretend to be retired. If it is comfortable, you are probably good to go.

Play music like you always wanted. Gain the knowledgeyou need to learn rapidly and cut out most of the practicedrudgery. Dr. Moloney is a retired Family Practitioner witha lifelong interest in music and teaching.Empower yourself to take charge of your music learning bystudying his E-book.

Would you really dare to give each client a gift of $500 this Christmas? What about something worth $2000? Or maybe $5000?

You think I? joking right? I mean, here you are struggling with your 50 cent marketing budget and I? giving you the key to your bankruptcy. At Christmas time, abercrombie and fitch paris, too!

Step up to the roller coaster and you?l find out how Marie beat the system with some simple, yet smart marketing tactics and how you can too. Yeah, just like that?br />
         Marie Ain? No Santa Claus!

Nope! She? just like you and me.

She can do the Ho! Ho! Ho bit, until she? faced with the prospect of expensive client gifts. Oh sure she wants to revel in the spirit of giving, but her bank balance is screaming for some mouth to mouth resuscitation. And that? something she can? ignore.

What? Worse Is Marie? Clients Probably Won? Even Like The Gifts!

Look at yourself. Did you really like that burgundy sweater you got last year? Or that gift basket full of calorie-ridden chocolates that made you wish you hadn? seen them at all.

Let? face it. Murphy? Law, kicks in bigger and bolder at this time of the year than any other. On average (and often because you?e buying gifts in bulk) you?e giving your client a gift that? so far off the mark that you might as well throw it in your own trash can and save him the trouble.

How Can Marie Play Scrooge And Santa Simultaneously?

There? one simple concept every business ignores. It? called Spare Capacity. Hotels are never totally booked, flights are never quite packed to the gills, and by golly, most businesses like yours and mine (no matter how busy) always have some free space and time.

Marie could use this factor to her advantage. If she approached my business, these are the steps she would logically follow.

1-2-3, Cha, Cha, Cha (Here Are The Steps!)

Step 1: It? all in the way Marie puts it. If she simply asked me to speak to her clients, doudoune moncler, I might decline, but if she made it extremely tantalizing, franklin marshall, I? be only too willing.

?ow would you like to meet with 20 new clients, that would be very keen to do business with you??br />
That kind of question would get my curiosity wound up pretty quickly. She can then explain how she would be introducing me to 20 of her top clients. All I had to do was offer each of them an hour of my time. If I did a good job, I would get a whole bunch of new clients that would be quite eager to meet me.

Let? say I charge $500 for a consultation. Marie could qualify her clients well, and give them each a voucher to meet up with me. In this consultation, abercrombie paris, they would have the opportunity to throw me any of their marketing issues and I would have the chance to wow them with my fancy footwork.

Step 2: Once we?e in agreement, she would create a voucher that she can give to her clients. This voucher offers them the specified time at my convenience (I only need to meet them in my free time). This voucher would offer them the benefit of some radical, unusual marketing either via the net, phone or in person. To make the deal sweeter, Marie could offer me 20 hours of her time to meet my clients.

Step 3: We give these vouchers to our respective clients for Christmas. We tell them that we?e bought them a gift that will help them tremendously in their business and that the gift is worth $500 or $2000, as the case may be.

Any one of those solutions would be worth anything from $200 to $20,moncler,000, depending on what the client did with the idea.

How does that compare with your $20 gift right now?

         Where Do You Start Looking?

There are no rules. Just because you sell product, it doesn? mean you have to do this Christmas swap with products.

If you sell products like beds, start looking at chiropractors, massage therapists, abercrombie and fitch, interior designers. If you look around you, you will find dozens of businesses that will be more than willing to play Christmas gift if there is something in it for them.

If you sell services?itto. Look for services as well as products. Every one has spare capacity. Services are most highly valued because they?e abstract and based on the person themselves, but you can find products that are sitting in someone? warehouse and they? be glad for you to take them off their hands, in return for access to your top clients.

Best of all, this solves the problem of the suitability of the gift. Wouldn? a business be more excited by a highly prized service than another daily planner?

Why This Concept May Not Work For You

Marie, has got to make sure that I give solid information in the consulting session to her clients. Sales pitches are a no-no. Your swap must be a REAL gift, not some shoddily disguised sales pitch.

Pick your Christmas Partners carefully. A lot could go wrong here if all they?e seeing is dollar signs.

The second reason why this may not work for you is sheer laziness. You might find it easier to step into a gift shop and blow $1000 on gifts for your clients. It? easy and it beats having to knock on doors and trudge through snow or sun (depending on where you live on the planet).

         Hopefully You?e Not That ?uh,coach outlet!?br />
When you give your gift, all you?e doing is trying to make your current client happy (and that? great!). With Marie? concept, you?e actually getting a chance to meet another 20 new clients.

Say that quietly to yourself: Twenty new clients without you having to do any selling. You don? even have to spend any advertising or marketing moolah to get them in the door. Best of all, they will actually be grateful to have you over.

Does that send a chill down your spine? What if you could do this deal with three people just like Marie? Would 80 appointments be good enough for you?

Are You Going To Have a great NEW YEAR Or What?

No one ever told you about Santa Scrooge did they? Well, now that you know, what are you going to do about it? This rocks, abercrombie france, my friend. Now go there and create a New Year that? really worth big bucks in your balance sheet.

If you do, the next time your banker hears Ho! Ho! Ho, he knows it? not Santa, abercrombie!

         Apartment Costs:

The cost of the apartment is based mainly on two factors. 1) Where the apartment is located and 2) the size and quality of the apartment. Apartments tend to cost more the closer you are to the population center. Rentals are also more if you have a great view. Places with a high cost of living, like New York City or San Diego will be expensive to live in. Most places with high cost of living also have good public transportation that can take you past the expensive apartments that are close to your work, and out to the less-expensive part of town. Not only will you flat out pay more for your apartment in areas like this, abercrombie, but you will also get a smaller, lower quality apartment for the extreme prices.

         Specialized apartments for rent:

Nearly all communities have apartments for rent. Communities with large populations have apartments that are designated to certain groups of the population. There are apartments for those who have disabilities, and there are also apartments for the elderly. Each of these apartments has staff on hand to assist with special needs the apartment renters or owners may have.

         Moving in fees:

Most apartment managers charge a move in fee, moncler, plus a deposit. The deposit is refundable at the end of your contract, abercrombie, but depends on the condition of the apartment. You may lose some of your deposit if you have broken anything in the apartment, louboutin, or if you left it dirty and the owner is forced to pay to have it cleaned before the next person can move in. States have laws to protect renters who do not receive their deposit back within a reasonable amount of time.

         Amenities:

Swimming pools, hot tubs, spas, coach outlet, tennis courts, weight and aerobic rooms, abercrombie and fitch paris, basketball courts, horseshoes, playgrounds, and other amenities are found at apartments. Often you end up paying more for rent because of the amenities, although for some people such conveniences are well worth the extra cost. Some apartments allow you to have a pet; others don? (although more don? than do). Some apartments come with age restrictions. Smoking may be prohibited in some apartments.

         Before moving in:

Apartments for rent come in many varieties. You will want to read your contract carefully before you sign it, because it very well could be different then the one you signed for a previous apartment.

Whether you are moving into a newly built apartment, or into one that is several years old, you will want to make note of any electrical, abercrombie paris, plumbing, or heating and cooling problems. Make sure that they are fixed before you move into the apartment. There are many apartments for rent, so you have many to choose from and you can afford to be picky. Your landlord knows that and will more likely offer to fix something so that you will move in,abercrombie and fitch, then fix it after you are moved in and paying rent. Also make sure the apartment is clean?t? no fun having to clean up after the last tenants.

You will also want to take a good look at your contract before you sign it. Some apartment managers require you to give a certain amount of warning before you move out. Others make you pay for six months, abercrombie france, or a year, franklin marshall, no matter how long you stay in the apartment. Make sure you know what you are getting into, and keep a copy of the lease contract.

Mr Stanley, who works at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, US has published details of the incident in the African Journal of Ecology.

"The bat was injured and damaged in very specific places. This is pure speculation, but it's almost as if the squirrel was seeking to maim the bat in some way. Maim it or kill it such that it couldn't fly."

Mr Stanley recovered the now dead bat, a species known as Epomophorus wahlbergi, and photographed it.

Baboon's taste for bat

"I don't think this is normal," he adds, suggesting that injury or disease could also have prompted the bizarre interaction.

Rodents are not known to eat meat or hunt animals, so it is unclear why the squirrel would launch such an attack.

"Both wings were broken at pretty much the same place on the same side and the side of the head was fractured(断裂的)," he explains.

In the African Journal of Ecology research paper, Mr Stanley and colleague Ms Leah Collett, who works at the Animal Behaviour Research Unit based in Mikumi, Tanzania, describe another rare incidence of bat predation(掠夺行为).

While baboons are known to eat reptiles(爬行动物), birds and some mammals such as hares, they have never before been recorded eating bats.

Mortal wounds

"That's what caught my attention. When I looked up I realised that there was a squirrel up in the branches where the noise was coming from. The next thing I saw was the flapping of the bat's wings."

"We found a very developed foetus(胎儿) from the bat, and the baboon gave birth five days after the event was witnessed. Whether there was a connection or not we can't say."

"What was really intriguing about this, which may be pure coincidence or not, franklin marshall, is that both the bat and the baboon that ate it were pregnant," says Mr Stanley.

Mr Stanley and his colleagues identified the squirrel as a Svynnerton's bush squirrel (Paraxerus vexillarius), which at a weight of around 280g is three times heavier than the 89g bat.

"The squirrel had the bat in its mouth, or it was at least biting it, and then the bat went quiet for a while and then starting flapping its wings again."

For the past 20 years, he has studied small mammals in Tanzania, focusing on shrews(悍妇,泼妇),moncler, bats and rodents(啮齿类),abercrombie, usually conducting field work during July and August.

During one afternoon survey in the Mwofwomero Forest, in the Rubeho Mountains, doudoune moncler, he heard a fruit bat shrieking(尖叫,叫喊).

Conducting field work in the Mikumi National Park, Ms Collett witnessed a yellow baboon(狒狒) eating another fruit bat of the same genus (Epomophorus minor).

"It became apparent that there was an altercation(争论,口角) happening between the squirrel and the bat, coach outlet, something I'd never seen before or ever heard of."

Mr Stanley then describes how the events unfolded.

A bush squirrel collected 500m from the fatal incident A squirrel has been seen attempting to savage(野性的,凶猛的) a fruit bat to death.

Why the squirrel would want to kill the bat is a mystery.

"The least likely hypothesis is that the squirrel was preparing to eat the bat," says Mr Stanley.

Like most other rodents, Svynnerton's bush squirrels eat vegetable matter, fruits, nuts and small insects. No squirrels are known to hunt vertebrates, or even scavenge(打扫,到处觅食) meat.

"It was strange to hear an alarm call or vocalisation from a fruit bat typically we hear at night," he told BBC Earth News.

"Another possibility is that either the squirrel or the bat were mentally off balance."

"The second time it started vocalising and flapping, louboutin, the squirrel released it and the bat fell out of the tree and literally fell into these small saplings(树苗,小树) right above my head, and ultimately to my feet."

"No-one has recorded this type of behaviour or incident before," says Mr Stanley, abercrombie paris, who saw the squirrel try to kill the bat in a tree above his head.

The bizarre(奇异的) incident was witnessed by zoologist Mr William Stanley, while he was conducting fieldwork in the forests of Tanzania.

"Either the squirrel thought the bat was a threat to it, or to its young if they were around, abercrombie, or to a food source. Maybe the squirrel was going after some fruit and the bat was hanging there and the squirrel wanted to get rid of some competition."
